The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 provides a legal framework in India for processing digital personal data and recognizing rights and duties related to such data.
- Intellectual property and academic integrity: Copyright generally belongs to the creator or rights holder unless rights are transferred or a permitted license applies. Permission and attribution should therefore be checked before reusing software, music, videos, photographs, articles, presentations, images, data, code, or other creative works. Plagiarism is avoided by writing in one's own words, using quotation marks for exact words, citing sources, and acknowledging images, data, code, and ideas.
- Software licensing: An open-source license may permit specified forms of use, study, modification, and distribution. A software license explains how software may be installed, used, modified, copied, or distributed, and its conditions must be followed.
