Speed may be assessed through a 50-metre sprint; endurance through a 600-metre or longer run-walk; strength-endurance through sit-ups or push-ups; flexibility through the sit-and-reach test; agility through a shuttle run; and coordination through ball or movement tasks. A fitness test battery combines several tests to assess multiple components of physical fitness.

  • BMI provides a calculated screening measure. The formula is:

BMI = Body mass in kilograms ÷ (Height in metres × Height in metres)

BMI is only a general screening indicator. It does not directly measure body fat and should be interpreted with age, sex, muscularity and other health factors.

  • Basic statistical calculations assist interpretation. The mean is calculated as:

Mean = Sum of all scores ÷ Number of scores

The range is calculated as:

Range = Highest score − Lowest score

Percentage is calculated as:
